Police are treating the Barossa Valley scrub fire as suspicious.

After 5pm on Monday 22 February, Police, MFS and CFS were called to a grass fire at Pewsey Vale near Tanunda.

With support from six aircraft and eight local Farm Firefighting Units, crews contained the fire by 9pm preventing it from spreading to nearby towns.

Around 50 acres of hilly terrain was burnt through with reported property damage or injuries.

Large trees in the area are expected to burn for several days and members of the public are asked to avoid the area.

Crime Scene Officers will be attending the scene today to investigate.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
